Google has released a new APP for people in New Delhi, India called Delhi Public Transport Offline. The APP helps people get around the city’s public transportation system, even when they don’t have access to an active Internet connection. Users can search for directions to train and bus stations, as well as look up travel times, schedules, and bus numbers. Once the APP is downloaded, it uses the phone’s GPS instead of the Internet. The APP is similar to Citymapper, which is a transportation APP based on London. So far, it is not clear whether Google plans on releasing more transportation APPs for cities in other parts of the world. There are many other public transportation APPs, but most need an Internet connection. One such APP is Moovit. Founded in Israel, Moovit is available in more than 500 cities around the world, and lets users plan trips based on their location.
